Project Description

The project brief

We were tasked with an interior refurbishment and the creation of a rear extension on a home in Clapham, South London. As well as accounting for the interior and structural focus of the brief, this project also needed to consider the surroundings of the property - the neighbourhood was a quaint, charming area, and our design had to blend in seamlessly.

The main goal for the rear extension was to maximise natural light in the expanded living space. The architectural and interior design focus was to balance the heritage of the property with some subtle. Modern touches.

What we did

Our plans started with developing a mood board of ideas on how we could merge the old and new parts of the home. We opted for colour palettes that incorporated comforting textures, and curated accents, creating points of contrast.

We planned a design in accordance with the 7-stage RIBA framework for the rear home extension, using this space to create a larger kitchen and dining area. We used our technical design expertise to ensure that the elements of this new space blended in with the existing house. Once we’d finalised the design and submitted a planning application, our team of contractors started work on the construction phase of the work.

Our interior design experts began adding finishing touches to the space once construction was complete, turning the vision for the palette that we had into a reality; this aesthetic was complemented further by the furniture and fixture choices that we made.

The outcome

With our project management expertise, we orchestrated this project from creating the initial design brief to completion. We worked closely with our client at every stage of the project, and we prioritised this given the scale of the structural works that were happening.

The most challenging aspect of this project was navigating the need to integrate every phase of this refurbishment and extension. We were able to overcome this by coordinating our internal team, our interior design partner, and external suppliers.

In the extended kitchen area, we achieved the sense of tranquillity that we were aiming for. We extended this room out into the garden space through sliding patio doors, creating a harmonious transition between the indoors and outdoors.
