Reimagining a Home in Queen’s Park

Newly Created Basement Bathroom in Peckham Rye | Home Renovation London

In this London home in Peckham Rye, we were commissioned to transform an underutilised basement into a fully realised bathroom, turning a previously unused space into a calming and functional retreat. This project highlights the full scope of our design and build services in London, from structural works to high-end finishes.

Creating a Bathroom in the Basement

Starting with a blank basement, our team carefully designed the layout to maximise space and flow. The bathroom features a gently curved shower with a built-in seat and recessed niches, a freestanding bath, dual sinks on a long marble countertop, and a strategically positioned toilet—all designed for balance, practicality, and comfort.

Because the space was newly constructed as a bathroom, plumbing and drainage systems were installed, electrical wiring upgraded, and structural adjustments made to accommodate the layout. Every element was planned to ensure modern functionality while enhancing the sense of calm and openness.

Materials and Finishes

Material choices were key to creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Natural flooring with wooden insets adds tactile warmth, while lime-wash resin coats the walls and surfaces, providing durability and a soft, velvety finish. A courtyard-facing window allows natural light to filter in, highlighting textures and enhancing the overall sense of calm.

Attention to Detail

Every fixture and detail was carefully considered—from the ceiling-mounted shower head and recessed lighting to the placement of the freestanding bath and dual sinks—ensuring the space is both functional and relaxing. The layout accommodates two users comfortably while maintaining an airy, uncluttered feel.

Result: A Functional and Relaxing Basement Bathroom

The finished bathroom demonstrates how a basement can be fully transformed into a stylish, functional, and welcoming space. Through careful planning, expert craftsmanship, and thoughtful material choices, this renovation resulted in a bathroom that feels timeless and perfectly tailored to everyday routines.

Performance was as important as aesthetics. The clients placed great emphasis on sound and thermal insulation, particularly between floors and exposed walls, to make the house feel solid, quiet, and warm. Comfort was also addressed through underfloor heating with smart zonal controls, ensuring that each space could be adapted to suit the family’s needs. Water pressure and quality were not overlooked either, with plans for a high-performing system and a water softener to improve everyday living.

Throughout the project, we worked with the client’s ideas and inspiration—drawn from Houzz, Pinterest, and their own previous renovation experience—translating them into a design that balances wow-factor moments with budget-conscious decisions. The aim was never to overwhelm with frills, but to craft a home that feels fresh, functional, and timeless.

The result will be a space that reflects both the character of Queen’s Park and the lifestyle of its owners: a modern London home that’s light-filled, well-planned, and ready for family life to unfold.
