5 HOME RENOVATION & DECOR TRENDS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2025

We love to stay ahead of the trends, as often, it helps us to understand exactly what our customers are looking for from their home renovation project. We’ve used Pinterest and Google Trends data to identify 5 home renovation and decor-based trends for 2025, explaining a bit more about each and outlining why they may be the next big thing.

1. Loft conversions

We’re expecting loft conversions to be the most on-trend renovation choice of 2025, and we’ve based this prediction on real user search behaviour. Data from Google Trends for the past 90 days (counting from 17th December) revealed a 5000% increase in searches for ‘loft conversion cost per square metre’, suggesting that many Brits are already exploring the possibility of this type of project for the new year.

This type of renovation is extremely versatile, as the additional space that a loft conversion creates can be used in a variety of ways - from creating home offices and living spaces to additional bedrooms and workout areas. We wanted to know what the most popular choice would be for those Brits that are planning a loft conversion in 2025; so we used forecasted Pinterest trends for a selection of pins to find out.

The most popular purposes for a home loft conversion in 2025

  1. Bedroom (based on the trend for ‘attic bedroom designs’)
  2. Home office (based on the trend for ‘attic office’)
  3. Bathroom (based on the trend ‘loft conversion bathroom’)

2. Japandi living rooms

Japandi has been on our radar for a while, but we’re expecting it to really take off in 2025. Our research found that since September this year, searches for ‘Japandi style living room’ are up more than 5000% - and the trend is still growing, as Brits look to this fusion aesthetic style for inspiration for their spaces. Japandi is a seamless amalgamation of Japanese and Scandinavian decor trends, and it emphasises the most distinctive hallmarks of both styles. Japandi is inspired by the ancient Japanese principle of ‘wabi-sabi’, used to describe a slower way of living that draws upon simplicity; marrying this with the Scandinavian practice of ‘hygge’ which is characterised by cosiness and wellbeing. The end result is a decor blueprint that feels practical, welcoming, and balanced.

Pins using the phrase ‘Japandi living room’ have spiked on Pinterest, and you’ll find plenty of images that embody this aesthetic to give you the perfect starting point for your renovation.

Beyond the Japandi aesthetic, this style is all about flowing spaces, so there could be an opportunity to capture it in an even clearer way by reconfiguring the layout of your home. If you’re planning on extending your home, and you’re inspired by this style, you might even want to consider open plan spaces - they’ll enable you to enjoy a Japandi-inspired seamless transition between different parts of your home.

3. Cosy, practical porches

Porches are practical features for any home, and they can also help to add some extra kerb appeal to your property. We’ve observed a spike in Google searches for ‘porch builders near me’ since September, and this trend is reflected on Pinterest with increases in pins for phrases such as ‘porch designs UK’ and ‘porch extension’, suggesting that it’ll be in many people’s 2025 plans.

It’s got to be one of the savviest choices that homeowners could make, given the fact that building a porch comes with a host of different benefits; from boosting energy efficiency and insulation, to providing extra storage space, and adding extra privacy to the property. Porch builds also tend to fall under ‘permitted development’ guidelines, so in most cases there’ll be no need to obtain planning permission - making it a quicker, simpler renovation effort. It’s always worthwhile checking where your proposed plans fall under local planning laws though; take a look at our residential planning permission guide to learn why.

4. Open plan kitchens

Usage of the pin ‘open plan kitchen’ has grown exponentially over the past few months, telling us that more UK homeowners are craving this kind of free-flowing, multi-use space.

Whether we’re talking about open plan kitchen dining spaces, or kitchen and living areas, the premise is the same - this type of layout removes all physical boundaries, resulting in larger, open, airy spaces. In fact, Google Trends shows a 170% uplift in search interest for ‘open plan kitchen living dining layouts’, showing us that homeowners are looking for much more from their living areas. We’ve created many layouts that merge these three main areas of the home into one, expansive space, and we always do this in a way that retains the original purpose that each room serves. 5. Terrazzo bathrooms

Flooring is one of the most important choices that you’ll make during a bathroom remodel. Getting it right is all about balancing durability with style, and Pinterest data has shown us that there’s one particular material that ticks both boxes. The pin ‘terrazzo’ has surged in the past few months, and one of the most frequent examples we’re seeing is its usage for bathroom flooring. The most popular aesthetic is terrazzo tiles with flecks of deep, earthy tones, creating a muted modern appeal. Beyond flooring, it’s also a suitable choice for a shower splashback, and it’ll add some subtle character to your space when used in either way.
